Ball Gown Trends 2009
Each year prom gowns reflect what comes down the red carpet and runway. In 2009 this is a wide array of looks, because fashions are heading off into many directions. There are lots of styles which are a blast from the past and a definite air of femininity and fun!
Six of the key trends to look for in prom 2009 ball gowns are as follows:
Ruffles
If you like a flirty, feminine look then a gown featuring ruffles might be just the right look for you. There are gowns with subtle frills at the neckline or over the bust, right through to gowns made entirely of ruffles. One of the key styles is a smooth high waist bodice with a tiered ruffled skirt. It is a 1970's meets the 1920's look in 2009.
Prints
Typically prom gowns are one monochromatic color or perhaps a mix of black and white. This year the print explosion we have seen in fashion extends to the prom look. Some of the most popular looks are feminine floral prints and for the daring animal prints. Leopard print seems to be the standout favorite, but Zebra is also making an impact.
Grecian draping and pleating
Gowns are folded, twisted and draped in every which way to form an elegant and unique look. If you're not an expert at sewing, but need to save money by making your own prom dress this is a good trend to emulate. A large piece of hemmed silk can be draped in many different ways then belted at the waist for a gorgeous look.
Asymmetrical styling
Asymmetrical styling is as popular in formal gowns as it is in casual wear and swimsuits in 2009. There are one sleeve styles, wide neckline tops that hang off one shoulder and draped styles which are gathered to one shoulder.
The back is on show
The key feature to body feature to show off in 2009 is the back. There are cut out backs, low plunging backs, lattice work backs, cowl style draping backs, cross over multi straps and twist backs. If you'd like to show off your back start a back beauty care program early on. There are lots of exercises that can tone up the muscles of the back and regular exfoliation can help make the skin smooth and blemish free.
Cocktail lengths
There is both a 1920's and 1940's revival going on in the fashion arena. This has seen hemlines rise in special occasion wear. The looks are just as dressy as full ball gowns, but they hit at the ankles or mid calf rather the floor length. If you are a tall, lean girl this style of gown will help you look a little curvier. However, shorter girls are only likely to add width to their appearance.
